John Conlees Romantic Side Rendered In Lady Lay Down

Country fanatics of  the 1980’s will surely be familiar with John Conlee and his music. He was a huge radio favorite of record productions and country radio program directors. In between 1978 and 2004, he released a total of 11 studio albums. He placed an amazing total of 32 singles that topped the national country stars. His name continues to ring a bell in the country world, and until today, he continues to share on different parts of the world his songs that brings inspiration and chills.

According to reports and records, Conlee is the only licensed mortician ever to have a #1 Country record, which does rather make one wary of a song called “Lady Lay Down,” but fortunately this is a run of the mill, easy listening number. The song was released in October 1978 as the second single from the album Rose Colored Glasses. The song was John Conlee’s second country hit and his first of seven number ones on the country chart.

John Conlee: A Country Man Known for his Voice of Melancholy

Knowing John Conlee further, he is one of the most respected vocalists that emerged during the urban cowboy era. With his superb taste in material delivered by his melancholic voice, he stirred hearts and warmed homes for decades. He developed his distinct style as he grew in the peaceful fields o f Versailles, Kentucky. At an early young age, he learned to play the guitar and performed on local radio stations. Though he loved music, he pursued becoming a licensed mortician. Also, he worked as a disc jockey at numerous local radio stations. Through these jobs, he developed an important industry connections that would later help boost his singing career.

Conlee released his first video tape with ABC. His first songs were recorded and released in th 1970’s. He first gained major popular attention in 1978 with “Rose Colored Glasses.”  With the natural passion for country music, he dominated the charts with the renditions of his songs.
