Tippi Hedren Turns 93: She Improved Relationship with Daughter & Became a Devoted Granny of 3

Tippi Hendren, best known for her roles in films and television in the early '50s, has lived an extraordinary life in Hollywood. She was a successful actress and passed her acting genes down to her family.

Hendren's daughter and granddaughter have gone on to become successful actresses in their own right, although they do not share her name. She is now in her 90s and still celebrating her life.

Tippi Hendren turns 93 today, January 19, 2023. In 2021, for her 91st birthday, Hendren's daughter, Melanie Griffith, took to social media to share her mother's birthday with her fans. She shared photos of Hendren as a young woman and photos of them together.

The same year, Hendren's granddaughter, Dakota Johnson, shared photos of her grandmother on social media and wished her a happy birthday. Johnson used her grandmother's nickname, "Mor Mor," to address her grandmother.

In November last year, Griffith shared her gratitude for her mother's existence in a joint photo. She said:

"Thankful that my Mom is still here with us."

The photo she posted along with this caption was one of Hendren and Griffith snuggled together under one blanket on a couch. They both appeared happy and comfortable in one another's company.

Hendren began her career in 1961 after Alfred Hitchcock, a famous director, saw her in a television commercial. She had been acting before that, but her big break came when Hitchcock discovered her talent.

Tippi Hendren Became Close with Her Daughter: Now They Have 'Lovely' Relations

Hendren and Griffiths did not share the bond typical of a mother and daughter when Griffith was a child. However, as she got older, Griffith decided to put the past behind her and become closer to her mother.

there was no big deal in the pair repairing their relationship and that Hendren was a "devoted grandmother" to Griffith's three children, Alexander,

, and Stella.

Hendren and Griffith's father divorced in 1961 when Griffith was only four. At the time, Hendren took her to New York so that she could pursue acting and care for her daughter at the same time.

This led to Hendren's relationship with her daughter being somewhat difficult as she grew up. However, sources say they now share a "close and lovely" relationship that they don't want to let go of any time soon.

Talking about what it was that made Hendren's relationship with her daughter difficult, an insider revealed:

"[Griffith] felt forgotten by her mother. She went back and forth to see her father and his new family. She felt her mother held back love and was so focused on becoming a successful actress that she felt neglected."

The insider also shared that Melanie felt like her mother was not warm toward her. Instead, she felt her mother was reserved and not as open as she would have liked her to be. A source said Griffith felt like her mother had forgotten her.

Griffith often talks about how much she loves her mother and how grateful she is that she is still able to celebrate special occasions, like Thanksgiving, with the family. The pair have put the past aside to become a proper family unit.

"I Certainly Don't Let Age Dictate Anything,": Hendren Gave An Interview

In 2018, Hendren talked about why she was no longer taking on significant acting roles. She mentioned that it was not because she was too old but because she had done everything she wanted to do. In fact, she confirmed:

"Although I'm in my late 80s, I certainly don't let age dictate anything…."

She confirmed that age does not play a part in how she dresses, the roles she takes on, or the people she surrounds herself with. She said most of her work was now being done at her wildlife habitat, and she would no longer accept roles in films and television.
